Tennis-court work underway; district outlines cure time and bid schedule for remainder of construction

Board members received a construction update on the district’s tennis-court project and an overview of the remaining bid schedule.
A construction representative reported the first asphalt course had been laid and that the second coat would be finished the next day. He said the surface requires a roughly two-week cure before acrylic surfacing (the colored playing surface and line work) can be applied, and that fence installation and concrete-work on the south access will proceed in parallel. “We got the first course of asphalt down. Tomorrow, we’ll finish the second coat…that puts us in around the August 22 when we can start putting the acrylic,” he said.
The construction team said weather-related delays earlier in the project had created schedule pressure; the contractor noted an on-site project manager and daily oversight to monitor progress. The team and board discussed providing a project-management schedule to board members to show day-to-day tasks and commitments.
Administrators and the contractor said the goal is to have the courts ready by mid-September (approximate target: Sept. 13), but cautioned that alternates, cure times and weather may shift that target. Remaining bid packages for the overall construction project were opened July 30; the administration expects to finalize recommendations and bring them to the board on Aug. 21.
Board members also asked whether the construction team could integrate student opportunity and CACC involvement for trades exposure; the contractor confirmed willingness to work with administrators to create tours and in-school curriculum connections if evaluations and approvals permit.
No votes were required at the meeting; administrators said procurement and schedule information would be shared ahead of the recommendation on Aug. 21.
