Board approves trial Boys & Girls Club after-school program for middle-school grades

The West Noble School Corporation board voted to move forward with a trial Boys & Girls Club after-school program for grades 5–8 at the middle school, the superintendent said.
The club returned to the board after a summer pause due to low enrollment; the organization secured a grant from the Elkhart County Community Foundation that will fully fund part of the year for targeted grade levels so there is no cost to the district or parents for the remainder of the school year, the superintendent said. The district will provide space and transportation home, and the club plans to begin promotion and staffing efforts immediately.
Board members asked about staffing thresholds and supervision. The superintendent and program staff said study-table programs already run Mondays and Wednesdays and that the Boys & Girls Club would aim to staff each grade level with at least one certified adult, adding a second adult when participation reaches approximately 10 students for that grade. The board discussed contingency staffing and the use of certified and classified staff previously approved.
A motion to approve the program was made and seconded; the chair called the vote and the item was approved.
