Wabash board approves multiple hires, resignations and athletics staffing

At its Aug. 5 meeting the Wabash City Schools Board of Trustees approved a slate of personnel actions covering certified and classified staff, athletics volunteers and a temporary adjunct hire for choir.
The board approved hiring Marie Denny as Wabash High School guidance counselor on a 195‑day contract at $49,135 and Doug Ballinger as WHS geometry teacher at $61,295 for the 2024–25 school year. Administrators said Denny is a retired WCS teacher who will bring guidance experience and time around the school year to the role.
Classified hires approved included Isabella Wagner and Chloe Focal as preschool paraprofessionals at LHC at $11 per hour for 2024–25. The board accepted resignations from several cafeteria staff (Terry Smith, Wendy Griffin, Jessica Strickler) and Shane Smith (social worker at LHC), and it accepted resignations from team leaders Joey Till and Christina Martin and from certified choir director Mark Neville, whose resignation is effective immediately.
Athletics staffing changes were approved: the board accepted the resignation of Kyle Kelsheimer (WMS cross country assistant coach) and approved volunteers and assistants including Caitlin Bowles (WHS cheer volunteer), Derek Vogel (WMS cross country assistant), and Sammy Hipskin (WMS football volunteer).
To fill the choir vacancy on a short-term basis, the board approved hiring Emily France as a temporary adjunct choir teacher at a daily rate of $252.29 for up to 19 days beginning Aug. 6, 2024; administrators said the rate corresponds to her experience and certification.
Board members thanked departing staff and expressed appreciation for volunteers stepping into athletics roles. All personnel items passed by voice vote.
