Wabash High athletes Colson Coogler and Spencer Stout cited for state meet success

The Wabash City Schools Board of Trustees on Aug. 5 recognized Wabash High School track athletes who qualified for the state meet, honoring Colson Coogler, Spencer Stout and Natalie Adams.
Board members said Coogler qualified in the 100 and 200 meters and that Stout qualified in both hurdle events and medaled in the 300 hurdles, the first Wabash medal in that meet since the 2008 state competition. Natalie Adams qualified in the girls high jump but was not present at the meeting.
Spencer Stout, who told the board he plans to attend college in Taylor next year, described the preparation behind the results. "Just work harder, practice, listen to what Mr. Evan had to say," Stout said, crediting intentional training and recovery for the athletes' success.
Board members and administrators praised coach Evans and the broader team for an unusually strong showing: board participants said it was the first time since the 1930s that Wabash had representation in four different events at the state meet.
The board's recognition was ceremonial; no action was required. The district will display Coogler's and other qualifiers' names in the high school gym, where administrators said school records now reflect Coogler's 100- and 200-meter marks.
