Wabash board approves staff hires, athletics appointments and online-teacher assignments

The Wabash City School Board approved multiple personnel actions and athletics appointments on Oct. 21.
The board adopted a motion to add two permanent substitute positions (middle and high school), each 6.5 hours per day, four days per week, paid $85 per day (about $13.08 per hour). Superintendent (speaker 4) said administrators have often had to cover classes and that the permanent substitutes will relieve administrators and be scheduled to provide broader coverage across the middle and high schools.
The board accepted the resignation of Morgan Sprague (paraprofessional at OJ Neighbors), effective Oct. 4, 2024, and thanked Sprague for her service. The board approved a list of athletics hires and volunteers for the 2024–25 season, noting four new appointees the board identified during discussion. The board also approved hiring Isabelle Black as a paraprofessional at OJ Neighbors at $11 per hour.
Finally, the board approved online teaching assignments for 2024–25: Ben Bakker as the WMS online teacher and Amy Oswald as the WHS online teacher. The superintendent said Oswald currently oversees 25 online high-school students and the middle school has two online students; the district pays $325 per quarter for 1–5 students and an additional $65 per student after five, with payments made after each quarter and charged to the education fund.
All personnel and athletics items were approved by voice vote as part of the agenda.
