During the public-comment portion of the meeting, board member Mister Chapman addressed recent social-media posts that have raised concerns in schools across Indiana. "We do take every, threat, whether it's a prank, a joke, whatever, we take it seriously," Chapman said, describing district policies and procedures for investigating and responding to online threats and noting that the district works with law enforcement and pursues legal action when appropriate.
Chapman said many districts across the state have faced similar issues and urged parents to speak with their children about the seriousness of online posts. "Talk to your kids. Explain to them the right and wrong of social media and how to use it and how not to use it," he said, emphasizing the need to prevent fear in families and to ensure student safety when children come to school.
He also referenced a full-district meeting planned for Nov. 2 and said the board will continue to coordinate with staff, parents and law enforcement as necessary. Board members thanked staff, parents and law enforcement for their response during a difficult week and said they would "revisit" the topic as needed.
