At the hearing, a district administrator told the board an informal negotiating session has already taken place and the first official negotiation is scheduled for Sept. 17, 2024. The administration listed items it expects to address with the South Vermillion Education Association (SVEA): salary increases for certified staff, health‑benefit changes (the administration noted a 6.5% rate increase this year), extra‑curricular (ECA) stipends, initial placement on the salary schedule for new hires, language around hard‑to‑fill vacancies, professional leave days, pay for teachers who fill in for absent colleagues, and a review of the sick‑leave bank.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. Chair Mr. Ream closed the public comment period after seeing no speakers and the board adjourned the hearing to begin its regular agenda. The board did not take any bargaining decisions at the meeting; the administration said it will return for formal negotiations starting in September.
