The board approved three interrelated items affecting staffing, student services and childcare. First, members approved an MOU with IWU (Indiana Wesleyan University) to support a candidate through tuition and fee assistance with an agreement to recoup funds through service or reimbursement; the superintendent said the district will structure payment as a first-year salary with deductions so the payment is not an unexpected taxable liability for the candidate.
Second, the board approved the Bowen Center memorandum of understanding for mental health services; the superintendent said there were no substantive changes this year and no increase to the district’s financial obligation.
Third, the board streamlined the BEST (Braves Extended School Time) childcare rate schedule to make the program easier for families to understand. The superintendent described the new baseline as $35 per week with separate rates for delay days, cancellation days and school breaks; pre-K offerings that had operated four days a week will move to five days to support program growth.
All three items passed in separate motions; each was approved unanimously 7–0. Administrators said the changes are intended to support teacher recruitment, maintain mental-health supports for students and make childcare simpler to use for families.
