Board names Stephanie Chapman secondary curriculum director in 6-1 vote

The New Albany-Floyd County Schools board voted 6-1 to appoint Stephanie Chapman as the district’s new secondary curriculum director.
Mrs. Cook presented Chapman’s credentials, saying, “Miss Chapman has both a bachelor’s of science and her master’s degree from Indiana University Southeast. She has earned her plus 30 from Spalding University to obtain her administrative license. Her background includes over 20 years of working in education.” The presenter recommended Chapman based on her experience as an English classroom teacher, instructional coach and curriculum leader.
During the vote board member Leanne Weishardt said her “vote will reflect the fact that I don't want to fill this position, not the person,” citing concerns about filling positions in an environment of federal and state funding cuts. The motion to approve Chapman passed 6-1.
Chapman addressed the board and thanked members for the opportunity, saying she looked forward to supporting coaches, department chairs and administrators as the district continues its curriculum work.
The appointment is effective immediately; the board recorded the vote as 6 in favor, 1 opposed.
