At the start of the July 25 meeting a board member introduced Sarah Dorsey for the meeting’s 'Spotlight on Pike.' Dorsey said the district’s human resources department participated in the Westside Chamber Pike Township job fair at the Pike Freshman Center and that all secondary schools have hosted events for incoming and returning students. She said elementary schools and the Nathaniel Jones Early Learning Center will host 'meet the teacher' events the week before the first day of school.
Dorsey thanked Kappa Kappa Kappa for "their generous $400 donation to support our Pike High School fire program," noting community philanthropic support for extracurricular programming.
During board member items, the board introduced Starlena Hartman as the district’s new director of elementary education. A board member asked Hartman to stand so members could put a name with a face and thanked the board for approving her position. Board members offered congratulations and brief remarks about professional development efforts and readiness for the upcoming school year.
No public comments were recorded in the transcript for the 'good of the cause' period.
The meeting moved from these staff and member announcements into routine action items and votes later in the agenda.
