Lauren Hughes, assistant to the athletic director at Warren Central High School, used the board’s spotlight to celebrate recent student-athlete achievements and a new program. She recognized four girls who qualified for the 2025 IHSA state wrestling tournament and said the program is building participation across middle and high school grades.
Hughes also outlined the school’s inaugural girls flag football program, which began in 2024 in partnership with the Indianapolis Colts. She said more than 100 students expressed interest after an initial call-out and more than 70 attended tryouts. The Colts produced a content piece for National Girls & Women in Sports Day that helped publicize the program, Hughes said, and the team’s early season visibility has encouraged younger athletes and community partners.
Board members praised the programs during their remarks, noting the district’s role in expanding athletic opportunities for female students. "We're setting the standard," board member Howard Dorsey said, congratulating coaches and athletes.
The segment was a recognition and did not require board action; the board moved on to remaining agenda items after the spotlight.
