Ryan Russell, who presented the action item, explained that the district reports instructional time in minutes and that, under the proposed waiver, the district would subtract 375 minutes from the calendar total. "We're asking to waive 375 minutes … for the sake of providing additional professional time for teachers," he said, noting the waiver aligns with the school calendar and previously approved start‑time changes.
Board members stressed the district remains well above state requirements even with the waiver. Terry observed the district is “way above the state instructional minutes requirement,” and other board members said the change supports staff collaboration and student outcomes. President Burke confirmed the motion was moved and seconded (moved by Julie; seconded by Terry) and announced the motion passed unanimously.
The signed resolution will be submitted to the Indiana Department of Education by the waiver deadline, and district staff said they will provide additional details to families and finalize logistics as needed.
