Teachers, custodian and student robotics teams honored at MSD Lawrence Township meeting

The Lawrence Township school board paused its business to recognize staff and students.
Carla Johnson presented Above and Beyond awards to LaMonica Henson, a third‑grade teacher at Indian Creek Elementary, and Mike Lopez, head custodian. Johnson said Henson "guided a team of sixth graders to compete, making Indian Creek the only school in Indiana to win this prestigious competition," and that Lopez "played a vital role in helping us maximize our 3D printers, ensuring they run smoothly to create unique prizes for our students." The presentation noted Henson's work was featured on Fox 59 on Jan. 31.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Emily Hass Brown and principals introduced district VEX robotics winners and coaches. Jared Pennington, principal of Amy Beverelland Elementary, called forward students who won the Excellence Award and recognized their coach, Brady Harris. Representatives from Schallest Elementary were also introduced and applauded for teamwork awards.
The board congratulated students, coaches and staff and moved on to the business agenda.
