Board recognizes student Alice Friesen’s state finish and welcomes new school resource officer assignments

During the meeting’s core-values segment, Mr. Peters recognized Huntington County student-athlete Alice Friesen for finishing eighth in the IHSAA state 3,200-meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 36.13 seconds at the Robert C. Hall Track and Field Complex at Indiana University in Bloomington.
"Alice, we are so proud of you," Mr. Peters said, praising her discipline and noting the role of coaches, family and teammates in that achievement.
Mr. Peters also introduced Officer Daniel Lowes of the Huntington City Police Department as the newest school resource officer; Lowes will be primarily stationed at Riverview Middle School. He thanked Officer Ben Whitman (Huntington City Police Department), Officer Don Whitney (Huntington County Sheriff’s Department), Chief Corey Bridal and Sheriff Chris Newton for their support of the district’s school-resource-officer program, and recognized Mayor Richard Strick for his community leadership. Mr. Peters noted Assistant Chief Chris McCutcheon had also been in the accompanying photograph used in the recognition.
The board framed these recognitions as part of celebrating student achievement and community partnerships that support school safety and student opportunities.
