Board schedules interviews for District 2 vacancy; six candidates to be interviewed Jan. 14

The Huntington County Community School Corporation announced the process and schedule to fill the District 2 school board vacancy left by Matt Ross.
Board counsel Joe Wiley and the board outlined the timeline: 13 people applied, five were not eligible by residency rules, and two withdrew after the application deadline, leaving six qualified applicants. The candidates to be interviewed are Colin Davis, James Detmer, Christopher Hoffman, Cynthia Kiefer, Deborah Miller and Henry ("Hank") Miller. Interviews were set for Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, to be held in public and livestreamed; each interview will last 20 minutes and the order will be selected by random draw.
After all interviews, the board will discuss preferences and then hold roll-call ballots. A successful appointment requires four affirmative votes. If no candidate receives a four-vote majority after multiple ballots, the process will be turned over to the judge of the county circuit court, per the board’s stated procedure and applicable Indiana code and HCCSC policy.
Board leaders encouraged the public to attend or view the livestream and said the selection will be finalized at or shortly after the interview session.
