Huntington County school board elects Tim Allen president; sets pay and names officers

The Huntington County Community School Corporation reorganized its leadership at a meeting that resulted in Tim Allen’s election as board president and a slate of appointments that set the board’s leadership and some committee assignments for 2025.
During the organizational portion of the meeting, the board took nominations for president and, after a motion to close nominations passed, voted to elect Tim Allen. Superintendent Trout announced that the motion to close nominations had passed “6 0.” Members then applauded the new president and the agenda was turned over to him.
The board next nominated and elected Ryan Wall as vice president; the vote was announced as recorded "5 with 1 abstain." Gary McClellan was nominated and elected secretary, the vote recorded as 5 in favor with 1 abstention. The board also approved a motion to set board member compensation at $2,000 per year with $75 for special and other meetings for 2025; that motion passed unanimously, announced as "6 0." Superintendent Trout said the compensation figures reflect Indiana School Board Association guidelines and the board’s prior practice.
The board approved several standing appointments: Alex Eckert was appointed corporation treasurer (he had served in that role in 2024) and the superintendent or his designee and the treasurer will serve on the 2025 bid-opening committee. The board also reappointed Joseph Wiley to serve as the school board attorney at a rate the superintendent said had been adjusted the prior year to $175 per hour; the reappointment was approved unanimously.
Board members noted that some positions — such as the legislative liaison — typically rotate. Ryan Wall, who will continue as legislative liaison this year, told colleagues he would welcome a co-liaison in future years. The board also confirmed that nominations and ballots for a vacant District 2 seat will proceed in a separate process scheduled to begin Jan. 14.
The board adjourned the organizational business and moved to other agenda items later in the meeting.
