Committee approves three-year YMCA lease for Jacob Pyatt Magnet School and requests public athletics-field inventory

The School Committee approved GB 5-111, a three-year lease allowing Worcester Public Schools to continue using the YMCA gymnasium and parking lot for Jacob Pyatt Magnet School. The lease motion was taken by roll call and approved by the committee.
Member Mailman asked administration to provide a detailed report that lists which sports use which fields by season and school and to explain the district's process for ensuring equitable field access and Title IX alignment. "Please provide a report on which includes information by sports, by season, by high school and middle school ' which sport uses which fields and when," Member Mailman said, requesting transparency and an explanation of the district process.
Vice Chair Johnson offered a friendly amendment that the athletic director's written explanation be included in the superintendent's letter and posted on the Worcester Public Schools website so the information is available to the public rather than waiting for a later report. "He will put that in his superintendent letter, which will be posted on the website with the explanation from athletic director Dave Shea," Vice Chair Johnson said, describing how the information will be made public.
What happens next: Administration will prepare the requested field-inventory report and post the athletic director's explanation on the district website; the lease is approved and the facilities arrangement with the YMCA will continue under the terms approved by the committee.
