Masconomet approves shifting JV2 cheer funding to add assistant varsity coach

The Masconomet Regional School Committee voted unanimously to shift funding from a planned JV2 cheer coach to an assistant varsity coach following an update from the district’s cheerleading representative, identified in meeting remarks as Mister Delaneyas.
Delaneyas told the committee that earlier projections for third-level participation did not materialize — "15 students that we anticipated were going to be returning decided not to try out" — and that existing two levels can sustain the program this year. He said the program is highly competitive and that adding an assistant varsity coach would align with the district’s "plus one" staffing model used for other sports.
A committee member moved to shift the funding; the motion was seconded and carried by unanimous voice vote. Administration said the stipend for a varsity assistant would fall in the same contract salary schedule slot used for similar positions. During discussion the presenters and administration referenced a placeholder stipend of roughly $37.47 for the JV2 posting and said the assistant varsity position would be posted and filled consistent with the contract and salary schedule.
