"We're making great progress on the school... we're on track to do that," Castillo said.
On enrollment, Castillo said the district received more than 300 applications for the K‑5 phase — ahead of early expectations — and that families will be notified on March 3. He described initial outreach, virtual information sessions with parent Q&A and a contest for students to help name mascots created using AI tools. Capacity for the initial phase was presented as up to 600 students (about 100 per grade), and Castillo said the district is planning contingency enrollment paths if construction timing changes.
Board members asked for additional demographic breakdowns and requested a similar applicant‑source pie chart for teacher applicants in a future quarterly report.
Next steps: staff will continue construction monitoring, post frequent updates and provide requested charts on applicant and staffing sources at the next quarterly presentation.
