Max Day, chief of data accountability and portfolio, briefed the committee on corrective-action notices, the 2025 charter request-for-applications process and a schedule to revise the Charter School Accountability Framework (CSAF).
Day said notices of noncompliance remain active for New Orleans Charter Math and Science High School and Landry High School and that corrective-action work is ongoing. On the 2025 charter application cycle, Day said the lone applicant will present at a public hearing that evening at 5:30 p.m.; the third-party evaluator will provide feedback on Dec. 10 and final recommendations on Dec. 19 before the district presents recommendations to the board in the next cycle.
On the CSAF revision, Day said the district is drafting a new academic performance framework and has engaged school leaders through office hours and working groups. “We hope to have the academic framework finalized by January 31,” he said, and staff intend to convene working groups January–March and finalize a full CSF by May 31.
Board members noted that topics discussed in working groups—such as a portrait-of-a-graduate measure—do not guarantee inclusion in the final CSAF. Day said working groups will inform the drafting process and that staff will return with a consolidated proposal.
The committee did not vote on the CSAF at this meeting; Day’s timeline and process description will guide staff work in the coming months.
Next steps noted by Day include publishing draft materials for public feedback, holding multiple working groups this spring on organizational, financial and indicator frameworks, and returning to the committee and board with a consolidated draft before May.
