Board approves Vision to Learn partnership to provide free eyeglasses to students

The Taylor School District board on Aug. 7 approved an agreement with Vision to Learn to provide on-site vision screenings and free eyeglasses to district students who fail school vision screenings.
Bridget Jarvis, representing the program, said Vision to Learn partners with local institutions and brings pediatric ophthalmologic screening and frame selection to schools. She described the process as similar to picture day: the nonprofit screens students who do not pass initial health-department vision checks, provides an on-site ophthalmologic assessment, and returns glasses in approximately two weeks. She emphasized there is no out-of-pocket cost to families and no insurance requirement beyond a signed parental waiver to participate.
"It is free to all of our students," Jarvis said. "They don't have to have insurance. They do get a waiver sign from the parents that they can be seen, but it's right at school."
The board approved the agreement by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
