Jennifer House, an instructor with Family Health Care, briefed the board on the Grants school-based health center and a state one-time funding opportunity. She said the state has approved $250,000 available for school-based health center facility upgrades, which may be used for equipment, patient privacy renovations, security improvements or new technology. The funding period is open and the center has through September 2025 to spend the allocation, House said.
House summarized program data from the most recent year: the health center provided 200 same-day appointments for acute needs and reported that 76 percent of clinic patients were returned to class on the same day; combined medical and behavioral health services totaled 3,039 visits between 07/01/2023 and 06/30/2024, including 302 well-child visits. Advisory council members recently approved an updated parental consent form that allows annual renewal if parents choose.
House said staff plan to continue tracking same-day return-to-class metrics and will report updates to the advisory council and to district leadership.
The board thanked House for the update; administration and the board indicated they will coordinate next steps to determine how best to apply for and use the available funding.
