Grant board approves multiple hires, general fund summary, after-school grant, meal pricing and donations

The Grant Public Schools board approved operational and financial items including hiring a slate of recommended candidates for district positions, accepting a recurring after-school grant, approving the general fund summary and food-service pricing, and accepting several community donations.

Administration presented a recommended hire list (12 positions) including a Fine Arts Center director/maintenance hire; elementary and secondary teachers; counselors; special-education positions; a middle-school physical-education hire; and a new school resource officer. The board approved the hires in a single motion after amending the agenda to combine personnel items.

On finance, the board approved the general fund summary for 2024–25; administrators noted the working fund balance was 23.78 percent and cautioned that some revenue lines (retirement-related adjustments from the state) could change when state guidance and consolidated applications are finalized. Board members discussed per-pupil funding shifts and how state decisions have affected revenue allocations.

The board accepted the annual after-school grant from the Fremont Area Community Foundation to support the after-school program and confirmed the grant is a yearly renewal. The board also set adult meal pricing at $5.15 for the year while student meals remain free under the Community Eligibility Provision. Finally, the board accepted donations: $1,556.26 (band trip fundraiser), $500 (Newaygo Plumbing for football), and $5,000 (Miles Per Hour Logistics for football).
