The Grant Public Schools Board of Education voted to adopt the superintendent evaluation template presented at a board workshop on Aug. 5 and discussed next steps for superintendent goals and strategic-plan updates.
The motion to adopt the template passed on a roll-call vote after board members confirmed they had completed the required training on the evaluation tool. The board clarified that if a superintendent receives an "effective" rating, filing the evaluation with the state can become optional for the next year, though trustees said they intend to continue yearly discussions regardless. "If a superintendent receives a high rating that evaluation does not have to take place every year," a trustee asked; the chair replied that while filing could be optional, the board may still conduct evaluations and discussions.
Separately, Superintendent Mr. Aiken said he will present three draft goals at the September board meeting and stressed the need for measurable metrics to track progress. He also proposed adding stretch goals to the strategic plan to set a longer-term vision for the district. "I've got pretty good idea what the goals are and finding the measurements is gonna be the challenging part," Mr. Aiken said.
