Parents and alumnus raise SAT test problems, urge program participation at Grandville meeting

Michelle Thomas, introduced for public comment, described complications students faced with the new adaptive, digital SAT: she said local seniors’ scores appeared lower than prior paper-based tests, some students were unable to take the June 1 administration because of computer or firewall problems, and retake opportunities this summer are limited (the next local window she cited is in August). Thomas asked whether technical issues that prevented students from testing on June 1 have been resolved so seniors can retake tests in time for college applications.
Cam Zukowski (Granville High School class of 2004) thanked the board and administration for support and recommended stronger district engagement with Veterans of Foreign Wars programs (Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy), saying those programs build writing and speaking skills and can generate scholarship opportunities. Zukowski offered to serve as a point of contact with the district for those programs.
