Board approves boys volleyball club, NAHS Chicago trip and adopts multiple policy updates

Trustees voted to add a Coldwater High School boys volleyball club to the spring offerings after Athletic Director Todd Farmer (speaker 5) and staff said 48 boys have expressed interest. Farmer described the proposal as a club sport for the spring that will initially be parent‑supported with no district cost; he said the club will seek affiliation with the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Circuit Association (MIVCA) and that travel would primarily be within the region. Board members asked about gym availability, transportation and how the club will fit against other spring sports; Farmer said parents would provide most transportation and varsity sports take scheduling precedence.
The board also approved a National Art Honor Society out‑of‑state trip to Chicago on April 25, 2025, for student members; trustees clarified the itinerary will include the Contemporary Art Museum and local galleries rather than the Art Institute.
Separately, trustees approved the second reading and formal adoption of revised board policies covering conflict of interest, grant fund controls, procurement, disposition of surplus property, employment of personnel, co‑curricular/extracurricular activities, opioid antagonists, student accidents, student conduct, artificial intelligence and criminal justice information security. The policies were adopted by roll call.
All votes on these items carried and the board thanked those involved in preparing the proposals.
