Coldwater board approves 2024–25 budget amendments after updated student counts, new reimbursements

The Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education voted to adopt amendments to the 2024–25 budgets for the general fund, food service fund, preschool/daycare tuition fund, debt service fund and the sinking fund, citing updated student counts, transportation reimbursements and newly awarded grants.
Superintendent Doctor Langford told trustees the district’s fall student count rose by roughly 62 students compared with the estimate used to set the original budget, and staff had since learned of a state transportation reimbursement the district expects this year. "The fall count is 90% of your per‑pupil foundation," Langford said, explaining why the revised counts and late-arriving reimbursements required adjustments. He said the district received an unexpected transportation reimbursement this year of about $308,000 and that several previously unknown grants also affected revenue projections.
Board members discussed timing for state aid and audit steps with business office staff. A staff member reported the board was presented with November accounts and general fund financial statements; those November payouts included general fund accounts of $2,285,506.61 and special revenue accounts of $268,295.87, which the board approved for payment.
On a roll‑call vote the board approved the budget amendments. The roll call recorded the following responses: Member Goldbrook: yes; Member Steele: yes; Member Dean: yes; Member Lanford: yes; Member Lyon Wells: yes; Member Frederick: absent; Member Lake: yes. The motion passed.
The board will implement the amended budgets and continue monitoring state aid and grant revenues as auditors and the intermediate school district reconcile counts and payments.
