Coldwater Board approves new high-school courses, athletics spending and pre-bond contract

The Coldwater Board of Education approved several agenda items during its recent board meeting, adopting eight new Coldwater High School courses for the 2025–26 school year, authorizing athletics purchases and awarding a pre-bond services contract.
The board approved the adoption of eight new high-school courses — Story Lines and Timelines; Leadership; Art Essentials; Mass Media; Lifeguard; AP Seminar; Officiating; and Swimming — after a presentation and recommendation from the district improvement advisory committee. Chair (S2) called for a roll-call vote; members Lionel Welch, Frederick, Billsborough, Fulbrook, Steele and Lake voted yes and one member was recorded absent; the motion passed.
The board also approved a $9,900 purchase from Team Choice for new JV and varsity baseball white uniforms, pullovers and bags to be paid from the district general fund. Board members discussed multi-year rotation practices for uniforms and the practice of moving varsity sets down to lower levels when appropriate before voting to approve the purchase by voice vote.
Separately, the board approved overnight travel for the bowling, gymnastics and boys swim and dive teams to attend regional and state finals, with locations and hotels noted in the report (regional bowling to Waterford and Auburn Hills; regional gymnastics to Grand Rapids; state finals and swim/diving sites listed). Athletic travel was presented by the administration and approved by motion.
The board authorized contracting with TMP Architecture for pre-bond services at a total fee of $26,000 (facility condition assessment $9,000; program assessment $6,000; pre-bond services $11,000). The pre-bond work will include facility and program assessments, community engagement, architectural and engineering review and interior design exploration to support a potential bond issue in 2025 or 2026; the motion passed on a roll-call vote.
Personnel recommendations — presented as part of the consent agenda and approved by the board — included acceptance of the retirement/resignation of Leicht Middle School teacher Andrew Rosso (effective July 1, 2025) and several other staff resignations and extra-duty coaching resignations, all listed in the board packet. The consent agenda including these personnel items was approved by motion.
Financial items approved on the consent agenda included the January accounts for payment and financial statements, which showed a general funds payment total of $2,781,296.30 and special revenue accounts totaling $352,622.51.
No further action was taken on other items beyond those motions and the board adjourned; the next regular meeting was announced for March 17 at the district Administrative Service Center.
