The Clintondale Community Schools Board of Education on a 6–0 vote appointed Presley Dorsett as interim chief financial officer and approved several personnel actions and district plans.
Trustee Barry Powers moved to adopt the superintendent’s recommendation to appoint Presley Dorsett as interim CFO; the motion, which included a request that the superintendent report back on the hiring process, was supported and carried after an expanded roll call following the arrival of an additional board member. The board disclosed the interim salary at $100,000, prorated to an effective date of July 1, 2024. Powers asked that the board receive periodic updates on recruitment; Superintendent Ken Janzrich said the position is posted and the district will review applications and report progress to trustees.
The board also adopted the district strategic plan for 2024–2027. During discussion, trustees asked for clarification about RIT goals (individual student growth targets used in district assessments); Superintendent Janzrich described RIT goals as “an individual goal that each student works towards within their assessment.” The motion to adopt the strategic plan carried unanimously.
On an addendum to the agenda, trustees voted to implement the 2024–25 school calendar through Nov. 30 so families would have dates for late-start professional development days and Thanksgiving break while broader calendar negotiations with the union continue. Trustee Barry Powers objected to voting without a copy of the calendar in hand and moved to table; the motion was withdrawn after administration explained the action was limited in scope to identifying late-start and holiday dates, and the board approved the calendar authorization 6–0. Superintendent Janzrich said the district is sharing dates now to help families plan child care and travel.
The board approved a consent agenda that included the hiring of GSRP teacher Irie Hill/Ariel Hughes, instructional assistant Sarah Andrews, CTE paraprofessional Susan Meyer and middle-school cheer coach Zagaya Davis, along with acceptance of a club-sponsorship resignation from Genevieve Jones. Non-consent items approved by roll call included accepted resignations from Veronica Blackman (special education teacher, effective Aug. 31, 2024), Latanya Mixon (social worker, effective Aug. 26, 2024) and Amanda Nalo (elementary teacher, effective Aug. 22, 2024). The board also voted to hire Laura Wentz as an elementary teacher for the 2024–25 school year, contingent on required clearances, at a listed salary of $39,664 (step 1, BA schedule).
The board approved conference travel for Teresa Wilson to attend the MASB leadership conference in October at a cost of $716.07 plus meal receipts and approved bills ending Aug. 30, 2024; one check (No. 3587) was pulled for separate review.
A closed session to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation was scheduled under section 8a of the Open Meetings Act; the board recessed to closed session and adjourned at 9:17 p.m.
Actions taken: appointment of interim CFO (presley dorsett), adoption of the 2024–2027 strategic plan, authorization of the school calendar through Nov. 30, multiple personnel hires and accepted resignations, approval of conference travel and bills.
