Willmar City Council approved routine consent items and the accounts payable report as presented by City Clerk Renee Larson. The consent packet included council and work-session minutes, a police‑chief hiring agreement, a local road improvement funding agreement, an airport runway lighting advertisement for bids, and temporary liquor permits.
During consent the council pulled the finance report for discussion. Steve (speaker 10) questioned an engineering line item within the streets and highways category that was nearly at budget through April. City staff explained the line reflects outstanding engineering invoices tied to projects that have been shelved and ongoing feasibility work; staff said future months should show lower engineering costs once feasibility work concludes. The council then moved and approved the finance report by roll call.
Separately, the council approved reinstating a Sunday liquor license for VFW Post 1639 after a police recommendation to approve.
Several items discussed during the meeting will require additional staff follow-up, including detailed budget line clarifications and the lease drafting process for the RC Park initiative.
