The presenter then reviewed draft superintendent goals for the year: implement student‑behavior recommendations by May; complete the sale of the Gilbert School property (excluding the bus garage), ideally to the City of Gilbert by June 2025; evaluate buildings and special‑education transportation related to the 1404 building; continue coordination with MnDOT and St. Louis County to reduce obstacles related to Highway 53 before the 2025‑26 school year; prepare budget recommendations for a balanced budget; increase the frequency of strategic‑plan updates; conduct regular classroom visits (target: 102 by May); provide CliftonStrengths training for administrative staff and board; produce monthly narrated videos of district activities; and restart a Q&A column for residents in the Mesabi Tribune/Hometown Focus.
Andrew asked the board to certify the preliminary 2024‑25 levy at the maximum. He noted the levy remains in an adjustment phase with state calculations and that the preliminary increase was about 1.6 percent; he said the board could adjust the levy in December when calculations finalize. The board voted unanimously to certify the preliminary levy at the maximum and was told the Truth in Taxation hearing is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. at 1405 Progress Parkway.
Board members asked for more information for parents about academics to be included in regular updates and confirmed that certifying at the maximum is a common preliminary step with the option to adjust later.
