Mayor: ALDOT adds $100,000 to Jasper transportation project; city pursuing additional grant for new City Hall

Mayor David P. O. Mayer told the council June 18 that the city’s Transportation Alternatives project near City Hall is receiving additional state assistance.
Cathy, a staff member, said the total project cost is “about 780,000,” up from roughly $600,000, and that an Alabama Department of Transportation official recently provided an additional $100,000 to help keep the project within the city’s budget. “So yesterday, we did learn from an ALDOT official that we would be receiving an additional 100,000 to help the city keep this one within our budget,” Cathy said. The mayor said the city’s grant-writing efforts and a working relationship with ALDOT were instrumental in securing funding.
Mayor Mayer also referenced a separate grant application related to a new City Hall effort, telling the council, “This project is probably gonna close 1000000 dollars.” The phrasing indicates an approximate figure; the council did not provide a precise final award amount during the meeting.
Council members did not vote on these grant items during the meeting; the mayor presented the update as an informational report. Staff and the mayor emphasized the need for match funds and noted inflation can increase costs between application and construction.
