Mrs. O'Hara outlines 2024–25 calendar, ParentSquare rollout and new student programs

Superintendent (Mrs. O'Hara) reported the Sept. 4 first day of school, a Sept. 3 superintendent conference day, calendar alignment with OU BOCES, ParentSquare transition and new student engagement tools including Passport for Good and the seal of civic readiness.
Mrs. O'Hara reviewed preparations for the 2024–25 school year and several communication and programmatic changes parents should expect.
She confirmed the first day of school is Wednesday, Sept. 4, and that the superintendent's conference day is Tuesday, Sept. 3. She thanked facilities and staff for summer work on carpeting, lighting and other improvements in district buildings.
On the academic calendar, O'Hara said the district adjusted the 2024–25 calendar to align winter recess with OU BOCES by adding Thursday, Jan. 2 and Friday, Jan. 3, and proposed a half day for students on Friday, June 27. The revised calendar also preserves up to six emergency closing days while keeping the required 180 instructional days.
O'Hara described a district switch in family communications to ParentSquare. "As of August 19 where we said we would officially transition, we had 700 and, 30 registered users thus far," she said, and noted the district's technology team is contacting the roughly 28 households that did not receive the test message to update contact information. She credited Daniel Schwarzkopf, the new director of technology and data management, for overseeing the change.
On student engagement and credentials, O'Hara said the district will introduce Passport for Good for grades 6–12 to track community service hours and extracurricular participation digitally, and that students can earn a seal of civic readiness to appear on their digital resume.
She closed by thanking the board and staff for training and planning, and noted an Aug. 28 facilities tour for board members to view summer improvements.
