School board approves travel, two policy advisories for pregnant/parenting students and September payroll

The board adopted the meeting agenda and unanimously approved minutes from meetings on Aug. 19, Aug. 23 (special) and Sept. 9. The board also approved out‑of‑state travel for two adults to the Health Meals Incentive symposium scheduled in October; trustees discussed travel logistics and noted the timing overlaps with a major event in the host city.
On policy, the board moved to approve two policy advisories related to pregnant and parenting students (Policy Advisory Nos. 251 and 253). The motion was seconded and passed by voice vote with aye votes and no recorded opposition.
Finance items included a motion to approve September bills and payroll, which the board approved by voice vote. Board members also received a presented summary of budget adjustments and transfers for the month.
A staff presenter reviewed the district's use of federal Title funds: Title I funds commonly support salaries, tutoring and supplemental curriculum (and carryover can be used for summer school and tutoring); Title II covers professional development stipends; Title III supports English‑language learners, and Title IV funds counseling services and related conferences. The presenter said some carryover was used last year for a high‑school system that is now paid for by the district.
The board also announced National School Lunch Week activities at the elementary school, including a Pirate‑themed event and a visit by a mascot; USDA representatives are expected to attend.
The meeting adjourned after a short question period; the chair thanked staff and attendees.
