The Westfield Board of Education approved a memorandum of agreement with the Westfield Education Association and a package of routine personnel and committee items at its Feb. 11 meeting.
Mary Wiggins moved the personnel slate that included the WEA contract (item u); the board conducted a roll‑call vote and the motion passed with recorded yes votes from a majority of members and one recorded abstention. After the vote, the WEA president addressed the board to thank trustees and administration, calling the negotiation process "very thoughtful" and expressing appreciation for the partnership.
Board members also approved minutes from the Jan. 21 meeting, governance and policy items, curriculum approvals (including new high school electives and a STEM‑8 robotics update), finance and facilities items (a–i) and other routine actions. Several votes were by roll call with individual member responses recorded by the board clerk.
On personnel, the board approved items a–t (routine hires and changes); the personnel package included a note that the flag‑football program will transition from grant funding (New York Jets grant) to the district budget moving forward. The superintendent announced a retirement in the technology department: Jody Anderson, a system administrator with 25 years of service, and trustees recognized her contributions.
What happened in the meeting: the board moved into executive session twice (first for negotiations and other confidential matters, later for personnel and harassment/intimidation/bullying incidents) and did not return to public session after the final executive session.
Vote details: the WEA contract motion was moved by Mary Wiggins. The transcript records roll‑call voting with individual member responses; one member registered an abstention on the contract vote (Mary Wiggins). Where individual votes were audible and recorded in the meeting transcript, those votes are reflected in the official board minutes and vote records maintained by the district clerk.
