Ruth DiGiovanni sworn in as West Essex Regional School District board member; board opens public comment

DiGiovanni recited the oath, including a pledge to support the U.S. and New Jersey constitutions and a statement of statutory qualifications: "I will faithfully, impartially, and justly perform all the duties of the office of board member according to the best of my ability, so help me God," she said during the recitation.
The oath referenced the statutory qualifications listed in NJSA 18A:21-1, which are required of board members in New Jersey. After the oath, the Chair congratulated DiGiovanni and said the board was "excited to have you" join its membership.
Following the swearing-in, the Clerk called roll and recorded attendance. The Chair noted that the board had published meeting notices in local outlets on 01/05/2024 and welcomed staff back for the start of the school year, saying teachers returned "enthusiastic, energetic" after the break. A board member also noted several administrative promotions were internal and expressed optimism that the continuity and new ideas from promoted administrators would benefit students and the school community.
The Chair opened the floor for public comments on agenda items; when no speakers came forward the meeting proceeded to the finance portion of the agenda.
