District presenters described multiple in-person summer courses running through Community Education that award 2.5 WWP credits and are intended as an Option 2 alternative. The science supervisor highlighted a summer marine-science offering that meets July 7—— Aug. 1, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and noted it is designed to be a credible replacement for outside five-week learning-center options. "Students will receive 2 and a half credits," the supervisor said. Later the supervisor confirmed the program fee: "It's $500 per student."
The social-studies supervisor introduced a new interdisciplinary Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) humanities summer course that will also run in July through Community Education and award 2.5 credits; the session will be transcripted, factor into GPA and is available in both CP and honors levels when designated. Mathematics presenters described three summer math options (including Introduction to Data Science and Discrete Math) that likewise award 2.5 credits and can be part of pathway acceleration when appropriate.
Presenters repeatedly emphasized that these in-person courses are designed to be supportive and taught by WWP-certified teachers. FAQ documents for each course and registration links are posted on the Community Education webpage, and families were reminded of the April 1 preapproval/registration deadline for summer Option 2 work when applicable.
