Doug Wilson, a representative of the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) and director of financial aid at Kean University, told families at a Watchung Hills Regional High School virtual workshop that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will broadly open on Dec. 1 and that completing it is the gateway to federal, state and institutional aid.
Wilson urged parents and students to create an FSA ID now at studentaid.gov so signatures are ready when the application opens. “If you remember nothing else, I tell you remember this website, studentaid.gov,” he said, recommending families also use college net price calculators to estimate likely aid packages.
Jason Sabino, director of school counseling at Watchung Hills, opened the webinar and reminded attendees that New Jersey requires students in the classes of 2025 through 2027 to complete the FAFSA or submit an approved waiver as part of graduation…
