Board moves into executive session to discuss superintendent's evaluation

The South Orange-Maplewood School District Board of Education moved into executive session at 6:03 p.m. on May 30, 2025 to discuss the superintendent's evaluation, the board chair said.

The chair made the motion to close the public session and enter executive session "to discuss the superintendent's evaluation," adding that "the length of the executive session is estimated to be 60 minutes, after which the meeting will be adjourned." A board member identified in roll call as Liz Callahan seconded the motion; the chair then asked those in favor before adjourning the public meeting.

At the start of the meeting, the board conducted a roll call and confirmed a quorum, and the chair led the pledge of allegiance. The chair also read a notice that adequate notice of the meeting had been sent by the secretary at 9:07 a.m. on May 30, 2025 to Maplewood and South Orange township clerks and local news outlets, and stated there were no virtual public speakers.

The chair announced the board will meet again in public session in person on Thursday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. for a recognition and renewals meeting and said that action will be taken at that meeting. The transcript does not record a roll-call vote tally on the motion to enter executive session.
