Tri‑Valley officials report short‑term gains on I‑Ready diagnostics, plan targeted interventions

"Our elementary school, you know, we saw almost a 10% gain in that mid to above grade level," the administrator said, summarizing progress between the first and second diagnostics conducted this school year. She reported middle-group gains of about 11% and similar positive shifts in several grade levels after three months of focused intervention.
The presenter cautioned that the data are early and that honors students taking higher-level courses may not be represented in the math diagnostic data. She said the district plans a third diagnostic in spring to compare results with the New York State grades 3–8 assessments.
Board members asked whether older students' gaps stem from COVID-era learning loss; the administrator answered that causes are multiple and that some screening tools previously used did not provide the granular guidance teachers now see with I‑Ready.
To translate diagnostics into progress, staff said they will increase MTSS time blocks, expand AIS math supports, implement phonics and reading programs at lower grades and continue teacher training. "We have to give our teachers the right tools at the right time," a staff member said.
The district will continue reporting diagnostic results and said it hopes to confirm gains when the spring diagnostic and state testing results are available.
