District begins work on new district office; audit and HVAC shortfalls prompt plan for interim repairs and voter-funded upgrade

The Southampton Union Free School District’s assistant superintendent for business told the board demolition is underway at the new district office site and the district is targeting the February break to move operations into the new facility.
The administrator reported that an assessment of the new building’s HVAC found the current system does not meet requirements. He said the budget approved in May did not include a full system replacement, so staff and the director of facilities (Marcus De Silva) will identify funds for interim repairs to make the system hold through February to May. The administration intends to place a capital proposition before voters to approve additional funds needed to upgrade the air-conditioning system in the new district office.
The assistant superintendent also said the district has received a draft controllers audit report and has submitted a response signed by the board president; the district is awaiting the final report before presenting corrective actions and the response to the board for public review.
Committee representatives said they will schedule a public briefing to explain the range of ongoing projects, because multiple renovation and facilities projects are running concurrently.
