Parent Lianne Kuhau praises Saugerties schools for support of her children

Lianne Kuhau, a parent of three, told a SAUGERTIES CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT gathering that the district and its community have supported her family and helped her children grow. "Saugerties High, where I became me," she said as she opened her remarks with a six-word story.
Kuhau said she had been "a kid that got in a little trouble" but learned and changed over time, and that experience shapes why the schools matter to her family. She said she entered the six-word story contest to become more involved with the school community and to make her voice known.
She described having two special-needs children in the district and credited staff and the broader community with steady support: "Saugerties is a great fit for my kids because of the support, because of the community, because of the care," Kuhau said. She added that her children have shown "so much growth in all 3 of them," citing both academic progress and social development.
Kuhau also noted the continuity of community ties, saying she still recognizes faces from her own high school years at district events and finds that return of familiar people "pretty cool." She closed by saying she has an eighth grader, a sixth grader and a kindergartner in the district and that she plans to remain involved: "I'm gonna be here a long time, and I can't wait to see where this district takes them."
