Students recognized, community schools presentation outlines partnerships and on-site services

The board recognized members of the Salem FFA parliamentary procedure team for placing second in the New York State contest and approved travel related to the program. Amy Maxwell, the FFA advisor and agriculture teacher, thanked trustees for supporting the chapter's trip to state convention and described student growth through the program.
District staff also presented community-school work. Kim Farr, the district's student-and-family engagement coordinator, outlined partnerships that provide on-site services and supports for students and families: a dental clinic that served 87 students this spring, connections to intervention programs for students facing behavioral issues such as vaping, plans to invite a mobile vision unit in future months, and development of a food pantry and clothing closet. Farr said these efforts are part of a community-school transformation and emphasized coordination with local partners and casework to connect families to services.
Trustees praised the FFA performance and the progress on community-school strategies, and a student delegation briefly described service-day activities and the value of community engagement. The board thanked staff and volunteers and accepted a community donation for athletics equipment later in the meeting.
