Board adopts extreme-heat policy; cell-phone policy deferred for additional data

The Onteora Central School District board unanimously adopted policy 3520 (extreme heat) at its July 1 meeting. The policy follows state guidance and sets protocol for responding to extreme-temperature conditions where, "where possible," spaces should be vacated or mitigated to protect students.
Separately, the board deferred final adoption of the student personal electronic devices policy (policy 7370) after trustees requested additional principal input and asked staff to remove or clarify the inclusion of calculators and district-supplied devices in the discipline provisions. Administrators reported high-school referral counts for the year and said they would gather more comparative data (including middle-school practices) before returning the policy for a vote.
Routine business items on the consent agenda (appointments, contracts and other administrative approvals) were approved unanimously.
