Superintendent: Phoenicia campus may be leased to film company; town exploring affordable-housing purchase

Superintendent McLaren reported July 1 that the district has had a walk-through with a film production company interested in leasing the Phoenicia campus as a production office from mid/late August through October; staff said any lease terms would be brought to the board for approval.
Separately, McLaren said representatives of the Town of Shandaken toured the property and are pursuing a plan to create affordable housing on the Phoenicia campus, with county assistance; the town would lead that process and, if terms are agreed, the district might include the sale of the campus on the May ballot.
McLaren also reminded trustees about summer programs (the Summer Skills Academy for K–5 will run July 7–Aug 1, 8:30–11:30 a.m.) and described construction-related disruptions on campus during summer work, including the planned new security vestibule. She said an RFP is out seeking unarmed, trained security personnel to staff the vestibule and that personnel would not be law enforcement.
The board asked for more details, and McLaren indicated any lease or proposed sale would return to the board for formal consideration.
