Superintendent reports strong test scores and a small vaping-settlement check

For 3–8 math, the superintendent said Marion's average placed the district first in all 25 BOCES districts and first in Wayne County. On regents exams (taking the average across all 10 regents tests), Marion ranked second across the BOCES and first in Wayne County. The superintendent praised teachers and staff for the results and said building-level presentations would include more granular statistics.
The superintendent also reported the district received a settlement check from the Jewel/Altria vaping class-action for "a little over $1,400," and suggested recycling those dollars into student prevention work. The superintendent noted the district had hired Tracy O'Hara as a school-to-work coordinator and said members could expect a report on that role at an upcoming meeting.
No formal policy actions were tied to these reports at this meeting; the board accepted the report and moved on to operational items.
