Board Chair (speaker S1) summarized the situation and asked whether the superintendent or the chair should contact border districts — Wayne Central, Palmyra, Newark and Sodus — to ask if they were interested in exploratory conversations. "That's not a decision for me. That's a decision for the board as a whole," the chair said, adding that initial outreach could be superintendent-to-superintendent and would be noncommittal: "If they say no, we move on. If they say maybe, then we see what happens."
Board members discussed possible benefits such as program sharing and soft cost savings (S4), and noted barriers including transportation and distance (S1, S5). Superintendent (S7) and other members recommended an "open listen" approach to explore options rather than presuming consolidation, and emphasized that student benefit would be the guiding principle: "If it doesn't benefit the students, it's not worth doing," the chair said.
No formal decision or study was commissioned at the meeting; members agreed to authorize initial outreach to see if neighboring districts are willing to talk further and to report back with any substantive interest or proposals.
