Katonah-Lewisboro board adopts three goals, updates committee charges and reworks report-card schedule

The Katonah-Lewisboro Board of Education on Sept. 19 adopted three updated board goals and a revised finance committee charge, both by unanimous votes, and discussed a restructured schedule for the district’s annual report card that emphasizes short, themed presentations tied to the KLSD 2030 learning commitment.
At the meeting the chair moved item 7.03 to adopt the updated board goals; the motion by Barbara, seconded by John, passed 7–0. The board then adopted revisions to the finance committee’s charge (item 7.05) on a motion by Bill, seconded by Lorraine, also recorded as 7–0.
Report-card reorganization: Ray (S3) presented a proposal to split the traditional single ‘report card’ night into several short presentations aligned with the district’s learning commitment. He said professional learning would be the focus on Nov. 7; academic data drawn from state assessments and internal measures would be moved to January so the board can include late-arriving state datasets; SEL, diversity/equity/inclusion, and sustainability elements would each receive focused attention during scheduled meetings. “The past is typically in late fall, we'll do what's identified as that report card,” Ray said when explaining the shift to a brief, conversational format rather than a marathon slide deck.
Data sources and external review: Board members asked whether the report card would rely on outside evaluations or internal measures. Ray said it will be a blend: state assessments (AP scores and state tests) combined with internal tools such as AIMSweb and participation measurements for arts, athletics and other activities. He also said the district can incorporate Tri-State site visits and external reviewers into professional learning conversations where appropriate.
Next steps and meetings: The board announced upcoming committee dates (policy committee Sept. 27; audit committee Oct. 1; first finance committee meeting Oct. 9) and its next full board meeting on Oct. 10. The district will bring forward the short-format presentations as outlined and continue to align them with the KLSD 2030 plan.
