Cuyahoga Heights board adopts religious‑instruction release time, updates special‑education policies; approves purchases and donations

On policy, the board voted 4–1 to adopt the current version of release time for religious instruction (the third reading). Motion to adopt was moved by Mister Dobbins and seconded by Miss Prowse. Roll call was Mister Dobbins — Aye; Missus Brousse — Aye; Missus Eder — Nay; Missus Decca — Aye; Mister Stojakki — Aye. The board also readopted revised 2025 special‑education model policies with four federally‑inconsistent sections excluded; that motion passed unanimously, 5–0.
In treasurer's business the board approved a package of vendor and purchase orders on the consent agenda. Treasurer (speaker 2) described three new vendors for the school musical (each under $500) and three purchase orders over $5,000: Martin Public Seating for 16 elementary cafeteria tables (about $35,584, general fund); Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for grades 9–10 English language arts (a five‑year digital license, about $43,342, general fund); and Dean's Greenhouse for the class of 2026 plant sale (about $13,000 from the class fund). Facilities staff explained the table purchase will replace older cafeteria furniture to improve safety and support breakfasts and lunches for multiple grade levels.
Superintendent (speaker 5) also recognized a donation of four guitars from Fred Holsworth, CEO of Estec; administrators said two guitars will go to the middle/high school and two to the elementary school and that the donation had been featured in the district newsletter.
The board approved AED emergency‑action plan items (to add an AED at the outdoor press box) and accepted the substitute teacher list on the consent agenda, each by unanimous roll call. The meeting adjourned into an executive session under ORC 121.22(G)(1) to discuss personnel matters; no action was announced on reconvening.
Board members emphasized that some of the policy items are tied to pending state statutory changes and legal guidance and said they would continue review as state actions progress.
