The Brooklyn City Board of Education took a series of routine and substantive votes at its Nov. 19, 2024 meeting, approving minutes, financial statements, personnel actions, contracts and a request to the city to transfer library property to district ownership.
Motions adopted by roll call included adoption of the meeting minutes and approval of the October financial statements. The board approved a revised district student wellness and success funding plan; the superintendent explained the revision reflected a provider change.
The board authorized the superintendent to enter into an agreement with Winston Consulting and Counseling LLC to provide private therapy for students for the 2024–25 school year, and approved a maintenance agreement with a professional roofing service for the 2024–25 school year. A revised service agreement with Schindler Elevator was also approved.
Personnel actions approved under the consent agenda included supplemental assignments for the 2024–25 school year (contingent on certification and background checks), the employment of Michael Smith as a bus driver (contingent on background/credential verification), acceptance of classified resignations (including Myra Madera), reassignments (JC Wolong to bus monitor), unpaid leaves for several classified employees, supplemental coaching resignations (Bryce Brown and Samaria Tufts) and an amendment to earlier coaching assignments (promotion of Jared Carl to varsity head coach; Savannah David moved to assistant varsity).
The board approved a resolution requesting the county fiscal officer to advance the district's real‑estate tax receipts (to provide cash advances one to one‑and‑a‑half months earlier than settlement), and the November fiscal forecast was accepted as presented.
Additionally, the board scheduled its 2025 organizational meeting for Jan. 7, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the treasurer’s conference room, extended formal thanks to retiring Polaris Career Center superintendent Bob Timmons for his years of service, and approved a resolution asking the city of Brooklyn to terminate estate and transfer a property for public library use to the district; the board noted the city must first pass its own resolution and the district expects a December 17 resolution to take official ownership effective Jan. 1, 2025.
Votes were recorded by roll call and recorded as shown in the minutes; the motions listed above were approved as presented during the meeting. Several board members offered brief remarks of thanks or congratulations on personnel changes and community events but did not seek further action on those topics.
